I’m Angie, a 50-something, menopausal, career Cosmetologist, Blogger, and life-long learner who wears many hats: Wife, Mom, Nana, wanna-be-sewist, harp enthusiast, plant killer, kitchen loather, and creative problem solver.
I own a small, full-service hair salon and one of the girls started telling this story about how she was online reading comments in a hair forum that said there were two kinds of hairdressers. The Glam Stylist, with a full face of makeup, lashes, and high heels. Then there are the old-school, no makeup, low-maintenance gals affectionately referred to as Gutter Stylists or Rat Stylists. What?!
I was offended. I am an old-school, low-maintenance, hairdresser. I work 45-50 hours a week consistently behind the chair in thigh-high compression socks and a corset for core support just to be able to get back to work the next day. There is No Way I am coming to work in high heels!
However, I do admit, that I could put a little more effort into putting on a more put-together, professional face. Considering I do represent the beauty industry. Annnd I do feel prettier and more confident when I see a little makeup on myself in the mirror.
Now for the excuses. I work a lot and I’m tired. I value sleep over spending hours in the bathroom doing my hair and makeup every day. Ugh, it just takes sooo long (deep sigh and exaggerated eye roll).
